My Favourite Place

Poems and writingsPosted by Uuganaa 27 Mar, 2012 10:33AM

Where is your favourite place in Scotland? What makes it special to you?

Scottish Book Trust and BBC Scotland want people to write about their favourite place in Scotland, whether it’s a remote beauty spot or an urban hideaway, a famous landmark or a favourite cafe. They want to get Scotland writing, inspired by our country’s best-loved places.

So in our Creative Writing class we just did that and Burky and Lisa submitted their written work to the Scottish Book Trust website.

Burky wrote his story on Dailly and talked about his moving friendship reunion with his best friend Poker McBride.

Village Life by Burky

My favourite place is a mining village called Dailly where I was born and I had many happy days with lots of friends and memories of the past. I had a friend from birth until 19 years of age called Poker McBride. I lost him for many years.

You can read Burky's story here.

Lisa wrote to Iona. She wrote a beautiful letter to this breath-taking place.

Letter to Iona by Lisa

My Dear Beautiful Iona

I have been fascinated by you since I first heard your name. I wanted to know more about you. So I went and saw pictures online. You looked so glorious, specially in the sunset. I longed to visit you and set my feet on the silver white sands that surround your body. Last year, I rented a holiday flat in Oban and caught a ferry to Mull. Then a bus to the place where we could sail to you. I could see you before I got in the ferry and your beauty and splendour overwhelmed me. I felt like I was almost dreaming. When we set sail you beckoned me closer.
